Fall Favorites 2017

Image
My personal favorites of Fall 2017. This will not be every single thing, but I will be showing a lot of what I just LOVE this fall season.  First and foremost, Titus, Lucy, and Winnie will always be my favorite in any season given. ;) I love them way more than they love me! hah! 2nd favorite is LOTION. I have moved to a drier climate than I am used to, so lotion has been amazing for me. I have been going through Avon's skin so soft lotion, moisture therapy from Avon, and Planet Spa from Avon as well. I have even been using the sensitive skin, skin  so soft body wash to help with the dry air! 3rd favorite is my oil diffuser. I use it all the time. I personally use young living and DoTerra oils, but whatever oils you do have will work with any diffuser; for the most part. hah! It's also helping the dry air as well. 4th favorite is my makeup! As an animal groomer, it's hard to wear eye makeup all the time, but I DO use my foundation (not pictured), Avon br

Employment

I sat down today after my vacation to read an article about employment, and it caught my attention immediately! I read it over at 'The Mighty' website, and I linked it right here for you guys to read if you want:  https://themighty.com/2017/09/tips-for-hiring-an-employee-with-autism/ What got to me in the article is that less than a third of people who have Asperger's are employed. That does not surprise me because it took me forever to find a job. When I did get my first job, I had a very difficult time, and in fact still, do struggle at my current job. It is difficult because of the smells, the noise, and the constant talking to people that really drain me. I am very sensitive to lights, smells, people and noises, and grooming dogs is probably not the best environment for someone with Asperger's. Could I be in a better grooming environment with my diagnosis? I am sure, but I have yet to find one. One thing I feel like that could have helped me from the very be

Independence

Alright, you guys. I am going to get REAL with you guys on this post.  I was sitting down today, my day off, and looking around me thinking, "man, as a 26-year-old woman, I am seeing people much younger than me living such independent lives compared to me." It hit me, we are all on different life paths, with different problems, and different situations. I personally have not really "experienced" life on my own. I have lived with family members all my life and would LOVE to be on my own. I have worked, done some college, traveled, and a few other things while I am at home or with family. I have done things to try to improve my personal situation, but I have my reasons, and I want to share my reasons for living at home up to this point. I was diagnosed very young, about 8 years old, maybe nine, with Aspergers. Although I am considered high functioning, I have my had my fair share of difficulties associated with it. When I tell people that I am an Aspie, I usually

Relax And Calm Down

Image
Relaxing is absolutely necessary for the dog grooming profession. As I have said in previous posts, it is an extremely demanding job physically and emotionally not just for me, but for everyone in this line of work. As someone who has a diagnosis of ASD (autism spectrum disorder), it takes more of a toll on me mentally and emotionally than physically. Calming down and relaxing is essential for my health.  How do you relax after a hard day at work? Everyone is different, but these are the things I enjoy doing in my down time! I love going to the dog park with my pups. I love seeing them run around and have all the space to roam around without worrying about them running away. finding treasures. big tree little dogs big tree little dogs I love hiking! In fact, this past week, I got to go on a two-mile hike near my house. It was extremely peaceful and got some beautiful pictures to show how beautiful it was.  Autumn is coming. hard to see, though on a mountai

Why It's Important To Be Nice

In the world we live in now, it is filled with people who are looking for immediate gratification, self-centered humans, and people who throw tantrums over the silliest things. The tantrums, the yelling, the rude, belittling, and condescending comments are doing worse for the world and the people around us than you, as a customer think. Why you ask? Because you, the customer, do NOT know what others are going through just like I do NOT know what you are going through. I am in NO way perfect when it comes to being nice ALL the time, however, I try my hardest every day to be nice because I know that what someone is going through just might be a lot worse than I can comprehend.  As a dog groomer, I appreciate every single nice person. Since I have become a groomer, I have realized that it is SUCH a hard job to do. For a lot (obviously not all) of pet groomers, it is the stress of doing so many dogs, meeting quota/ a bottom line. For me, the stress of grooming are the customers, no

Two Year Anniversary

Image
I just can't believe two years have passed for me on 2 events in my life, and I am proud of myself for this accomplishment. My first accomplishment is that I have had Titus and Lucy for two years now! I call that their #gotchaday. We celebrated by going on a walk in a park, and they thought that was the best day ever! Lucy enjoyed coming across a prairie dog, which yelled at us, dogs, bugs, lizards, and wildlife. Titus wanted to just lay down by the creek the whole time we were there. In the picture, Titus is the one looking at me, and Lucy is the one really busy hunting. Couldn't get Lucy to look at the camera! They both have come such a long way. Titus is a canine good citizen, and Lucy is getting better at listening, and not just doing what she wants. (She's smart but so stubborn!) So pretty, isn't it?! Titus on left, Lucy on right My second accomplishment is that I have been selling Avon now for 2 years! What is exciting is that the same week, Avon came

How my Career Began

My Dog Grooming career that is! I have been Dog grooming on and off for the last seven years. When I began my career in the Dog Grooming industry, it was during the recession, and it was THE most difficult time to find ANY job. I was desperate for anything as far as jobs go. So, what got me into grooming? I was volunteering at the San Diego Humane Society back in 2009 when the recession is in full force. I figured since I cannot find work, why not volunteer my time in any way I can. I was also going to school and babysitting as well, and applying to jobs left and right. I realized at this time that most people were getting jobs because they had connections. I had absolutely no connections, so volunteering was my best option at the time. I had heard several of the staff members and volunteers that they needed help bathing and grooming the pets there. (This included the cats and dog nails, baths, haircuts - whatever it could do to help). However, i had ZERO experience involving this

Family (and Dogs) Matter

Image
Yes, a family does matter!  Family can be defined as literal blood relatives and family. It can be friends, significant others, and honestly, our pets can be our own family! Some of us are not as fortunate as others to have all of that. I feel extremely blessed, and will never deny the fact that I have the best wonderful influences, family members, and pets in the world (don't take offense, I am sure you think that of your family/ friends/ pets). I often get asked in one shape or form when my love of animals really took off, and if my family is just as obsessed as I am. I would say that there IS a love of animals in my family, I just knew from as long as I can remember that I would be working with them in one form or another. I don't know if anyone, in particular, had that obsession like I did.  I was convinced that I'd be a zookeeper, a veterinarian, or a caretaker in some form. I am now a dog groomer. I consider every dog, cat, or any other animal I groom as l

Beginning

My Beginning This is my beginning to blog writing. I have very little experience in this - actually none at all - so bear with me! My goal in writing for people is to share my personal experiences over the years as a dog groomer.   *Please note that these are my experiences, and that doesn't necessarily mean that my experience will be just like someone else's.*   I will also be writing about general life experiences in this crazy world of ours and my journey in it. Just some facts about me: I have been dog grooming on and off for 6 years. I DO have a passion for the dogs. I have more hobbies than dogs. I do enjoy gardening. I love hiking. I sell AVON as another job: hurry.avonrepresentative.com/ Each post will be something different, random, personal, and overall a mix of so many things. So, hopefully, you can stay, follow, and continue to read up on my blog! xoxo, Hannah's blog
